Dear Colleagues,

On 11/21/13, in partnership with WISE (Women In Science and Engineering) at the UA, our school hosted an outreach event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dr. Barbara McClintock winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for her pioneering work on maize recombination and transposition.. The event was attended by more than 90 people. Two of our faculty (Dr. Karen Schumaker and Dr. Becky Mosher) gave presentations on this occasion on the scientific legacy of Dr. McClintock and the very many opportunities available for students interested in pursuing a career in plant sciences. I addition, grand nephew of Dr. McClintock (Tom McClintock) who is a graduate student in the Department of Physics at the UA also gave his reflections on Dr. McClintock, from a family perspective. Some of the photos from the event are attached.
