RE: Leadership Changes in the Office of Technology Transfer
The UA's Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) has new interim leadership. The
office will be led jointly by Andrew Comrie, Associate VP for Research and
Dean of the Graduate College, and Nina Ossanna, OTT Special Projects and
BIO5 Director of Business Development. Dr. Comrie will be responsible for
management and supervision of OTT and Dr. Ossanna will oversee the technical
business and intellectual property aspects of the office. They succeed Dr.
Patrick Jones who provided valuable leadership as the Director of OTT for
the last nine years and has moved to the University of Oregon to serve as an
Associate Vice President for Research Finance and Business Administration.
OTT is in an exciting transition phase this year as it becomes a key part of
the recently announced Tech Launch Arizona, or TLA
(http://uanews.org/node/43378). TLA is a technology commercialization center
that will include not only technology transfer activities such as licensing
and patenting but also a broader range of related functions and services
including corporate relations, small business incubation and acceleration,
tech parks, and greater engagement with entrepreneurs and the private
sector. The search for an Executive Director to head the new TLA is
underway, the search committee being chaired by Len Jessup, Dean of the
Eller College of Management.
