AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellows Program
The AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellowship places graduate and postgraduate students at media sites for the summer where they work as science journalists and learn more about science communication.
The Fellowship is supported by AAAS and a number of professional organizations, corporations, and foundations. This diversity of support helps us connect with students from many different fields and the sponsoring organizations gain from having critical mass media communications skills resident among students from their disciplinary areas.
AAAS has witnessed the benefit of connecting a young student scientist with an organization that represents their interests. This connection can last long after the Fellowship is finished. For instance, longtime Fellowship supporter IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) established a lasting professional relationship with their 2005 Fellow Abby Vogel, who now chairs the IEEE-USA Communications Committee and contributes to the IEEE-USA publication Today’s Engineer.
Currently, AAAS unfortunately doesn't receive a large volume of applicants from your field. If you have any prospective candidates in mind whom you think may be interested in pursuing the Fellowship, please invite your contacts to visit our site and learn more about the opportunity at http://www.aaas.org/programs/education/MassMedia/ <http://www.aaas.org/programs/education/MassMedia/?elq=13ef68db2f19461e88f6a87f61fa26a9> , and share with your colleagues, listservs, and networks. The application deadline for the 2012 program year is January 15, 2012.
Thank you for your service to AAAS, and for more details about the program, please contact Rahman A. Culver at raculver at aaas.org or 202-326-6645.
