Dear all,


You can find attached an announcement of a multi-stakeholder side event at
the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), focused
on land fragmentation and encroachment as barriers to implementing the
United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).



This event will feature key speakers, Indigenous reindeer herders, and
pastoralist communities on how land degradation and fragmentation impact
the principles of autonomy, cultural preservation, mobility, environmental
stewardship, and self-determination.



Speakers will highlight:

·  Indigenous-led models of livelihood and well-being resilience under
conditions of global change

·  Best practices for integrating Indigenous knowledge with scientific
monitoring to better understand land-use change

·  Practical approaches to enhance Indigenous adaptation and environmental
stewardship

The event will also present early findings and policy recommendations from
the UNEP-GEF project *“Reindeer Herding and Resilience”*, and aims to
generate constructive dialogue on overcoming challenges to UNDRIP
implementation.
