Dear Global Alliance partners of the IYRP
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has agreed to be nominated for
consideration for the IYRP Global Alliance list that we will submit to the
FAO secretariat, who will make the final decision on who will be on the FAO
IYRP Steering Committee. Given that we received more nominations that we
can submit to the FAO, we will embark on a voting process, which is
outlined below.
However, I would like to reiterate that whatever the outcome of the voting
process, we should continue to support the IYRP Global Alliance and FAO
IYRP and work towards our vision of achieving resilient rangelands and
sustainable pastoralism, all over the world especially at local levels.
That should be our main focus, from whatever position or place we occupy.
I suggest that you peruse the nominations list, and check for any errors or
names that might have been left out. We did a thorough check to make sure
no one is left out, but mistakes happen. Please email me privately, if you
notice an error or omission. May I have your responses by the end of day on *04
Apr 2025*, as we would like to start the voting process as soon as
possible. Also note that the category a nominee was placed in, was based on
the primary affiliation of the nominee.
*Voting Process Overview*
To finalize the list of nominees to be proposed by the IYRP Global Alliance
for the seven non-state member seats on the official IYRP Steering
Committee coordinated by FAO, the Yolda Initiative will facilitate an
online voting poll. Through this poll, you will vote for the
(self-)nominated individuals in each of the five categories.
The voting link will be shared with you on *5 April 2025.*
Please note the following important information regarding the voting
process:
*Eligibility:* Only individuals whose email addresses are part of the IYRP
Support Mailing Group will be eligible to vote.
*Security Measures:* To ensure the integrity of the process and avoid
duplication, the system will track IP addresses. If two responses are
submitted using the same email address or the same IP address (e.g., from
the same computer or device), both entries will be disqualified.
*Voting Requirements:* You will be asked to vote for the following number
of individuals per category (defined by FAO):
1. *International Organizations*: Vote for 2 individuals
2. *Academia and Research Institutions*: Vote for 2 individuals
3. *Civil Society Organizations*: Vote for 4 individuals *(2 seats
available)*
4. *Producer Organizations (Pastoralists)*: Vote for 4 individuals *(2
seats available)*
5. *Private Sector*: Vote for 2 individuals (However, we do not yet have
any nominees from the private sector)
A deadline of seven days will be set for submitting your responses. No
votes will be accepted after this date.
In the event of a tie in any category, members of the Global Secretariat of
the IYRP Global Alliance will make the final decision based on both the
general and category-specific criteria that were previously shared with you.
Finally, as explicitly requested by FAO, *gender balance and geographic
diversity* must be prioritized—particularly in the Civil Society
Organizations and Producer Organizations categories. We kindly ask you to
take this into account when casting your votes."
Kind regards,
IYRP Global Alliance Secretariat
