Dear all,

This is a reminder that the journal Pastoralism: Research, Policy & Practice has issued a call for papers for a special issue on “The role of pastoral livestock and products in climate change” to be edited by Carol Kerven, Jonathan Davies, Fiona Flintan, Julio Postigo, Andrei Florin Marin and Rashmi Singh. This is an opportunity for members of the IYRP alliance to highlight the important current and future role of pastoralism in a world that is rapidly becoming very different as a result of climate change.

The editors welcome articles from academics and practitioners. You can see the different types of possible contributions here: https://www.frontierspartnerships.org/journals/pastoralism-research-policy-and-practice/for-authors/article-types <https://www.frontierspartnerships.org/journals/pastoralism-research-policy-and-practice/for-authors/article-types>
Some possible topics for the Special Issue:

Comparative analyses of greenhouse emissions, carbon sequestration, biodiversity and vegetation indices under different grazing regimes
Critiques of global livestock impact analyses that do not differentiate between intensive and extensive systems and life cycle assessments of livestock and products based on benchmark data from advanced industrial countries applied to open range pastoral systems in Africa and Asia
Roles of the press, popular science, industries and activist groups on informing the public about livestock and climate change
The potential for pastoral livestock management to counter some effects of climate change and the loss of traditional knowledge as climate change pushes pastoralists out of business
Analysis of government and donor policies for ameliorating impacts of livestock on climate change, for example results of “green energy” initiatives on land encroachment and reduced mobility, in poorer countries with large pastoralist populations.

The deadline for submitting manuscripts is 15 December 2024.

As you can see here (https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/1033108 <https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/1033108>), the journal has received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to cover publication charges for authors based in sub-Saharan Africa.

Cheers,
Ann
