Dear all,
The importance of the IYRP2026 was highlighted at the close of Ian Scoones’ keynote address “Competing narratives for livestock development and policy” on 22 Sept 2023 during the Tropentag conference in Berlin, Germany. A recording of Ian's address is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp_HfmCmcv4 <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp_HfmCmcv4>
Ian is the Principal Investigator in the Advanced Grant project funded by the European Research Council “Pastoralism, Uncertainty and Resilience: Global Lessons from the Margins” (PASTRES) and Professor at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex, UK. PASTRES research was carried out in Isiolo, Kenya; Amdo Tibet, China; Sardinia, Italy, Kachchh,Gujarat, India; Borana, Ethiopia; and Southern Tunisia. The book Pastoralism, Uncertainty and Resilience (2023, 180pp) based on this research is open access (https://practicalactionpublishing.com/book/2667/pastoralism-uncertainty-and-development <https://practicalactionpublishing.com/book/2667/pastoralism-uncertainty-and-development>).
"This book is a timely and much needed window into the resilience of pastoralists worldwide, offering important insights into how to increase adaptive capacity in the face of climate change. It offers further proof that pastoralism is not an historical anachronism, but a sustainable solution for both people and the Earth.” Maryam Niamir-Fuller, co-chair of International Support Group for the United Nations IYRP 2026
