Dear All,
just wanted to remind and draw your attention to the Oxford Real Farming
Conference <https://orfc.org.uk/>, 'the largest gathering of the
agroecological movement on the planet, dedicated to transforming food and
farming systems for good and happens from 4-6 January'.
On-line participation is free for people from Asia and Africa, but you have
to register for that.
If you look at the programme
<https://orfc.org.uk/orfc-2023-online-programme/>, lots of the sessions are
dealing with livestock grazing, and on 5th January at 17.00 GMT, Saverio
Krätli will moderate a panel with Hanwant Singh, Zuriñe Iglesias Gonzalez
and myself on 'Humanity's Herding Heritage: Perspectives on Pastoralism
from India to Spain
<https://orfc.org.uk/session/humanitys-herding-heritage-perspectives-on-pastoralism-from-india-to-spain/>'
The event is described as follows:
* Pastoralists are people all over the world who keep herds of livestock –
ranging from alpacas to yaks – in mobile systems, producing food on the
move, providing organic manure and recycling crop residues. They are
amazingly efficient protein producers, conserve biodiversity and regard
their animals as family members that they keep in ways that can be
considered cruelty-free: without separating mothers from offspring,
allowing them dietary choices, and freedom to move. Join an international
panel of pastoralists and experts working across Africa, Asia, and Europe
to discuss how pastoralist practices and philosophies are situated at the
interface of ecological livestock keeping and nature conservation. *
We will definitely mention the IYRP!
Wishing a Happy New Year to All, and believing that the time for
pastoralism has come!
