[IYRPsupportgroup] What do you think of Ethiopia’s new Pastoral Development Policy? - and of the tool to navigate it?

Dear all,

We invite you to go to http://www.celep.info/fdre-policies/ <http://www.celep.info/fdre-policies/> and take a closer look at the new pastoral development policy of the Ethiopian Government. It has been analysed in quite some detail and laid out in a way that it is (we hope!) easy for you to find your way (navigate) through it.

The Ethiopian Government presents this Pastoral Development Policy and Strategy as a turning point in pastoral development in Ethiopia - moving away from the mistakes of the past. But what does this policy really say? How ‘new’ is its orientation?

Look at the (English translation of the) document as laid out on the CELEP website and let us know - either directly on the website through the comment function or via this Googlegroup - what you think of the new policy.

And please let us know also what you think about the mind-mapping tool that was used to analyse this national policy. Do you think it would be useful for analysing other national policies related to pastoral development? What kind of changes would you like to see in the way the policy is presented so that it is easier to navigate and to comment on?

Looking forward to your reactions to the policy document and/or the navigation tool,
Ann

> Tool to navigate Ethiopia’s Pastoral Development Policy
>
> In October 2020, a new Pastoral Development Policy and Strategy (in Amharic) was approved by the Council of Ministers of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The document is meant as a framework for a new set of similar policies to be produced at the level of Ethiopia's Regional States.

> CELEP has created a space on its website dedicated to helping people navigate the policy: http://www.celep.info/fdre-policies/ <http://www.celep.info/fdre-policies/>
>
> The map is based on the English text of the final draft presented to the Government of Ethiopia for approval in March 2019. The analysis focuses on internal coherence.

>
> A navigation tool in the form of a “map” of the policy document
> A brief synthesis meant as a quick reference for lobbying purposes
> A slide presentation of the brief
>
> All the elements of the policy are represented in the map. Clicking on any element takes you to a page with a brief description. An analytical commentary is also provided.
>
> For those who prefer text to images, description and commentary are accessible also through a table of contents on the webpage.
