[IYRPsupportgroup] Revision of Spanish translation of information on IYRP for pastoralist organisations

Dear Jurgen and others,
Thank you for starting this conversation. The various comments are very informative and will be very useful in helping to define these terms for the Glossary that Ann, myself and others are working on.

If people have any further comments about specific terms related to "pastoralists" I am happy to discuss further. However, this email stream is related to the IYRP efforts, and I do not wish to distract from the key aim of this discussion.

Best regards
Dana

Dear Ann and all,

First of all thank you all for your invaluable feedback and edifying insights. This is an amazing team! Thank you.

I fully agree, we received already very helpful technical and contextual information to help us polish the Spanish version, and would like to ask Susana Feldman, Pablo Manzano, Gregorio Velasco and Elizabeth Huber- Sannwald if you would like to review the next version (any one else?).We can discuss the new version separately, so that we can come up shortly with a good working document. Please confirm. Thank you.

Best and thanks again for your responses,

Jürgen

Dear Jürgen,

Your comments certainly stimulated a lot of interesting and useful discussion within this group – especially with a view to the socio-institutional glossary of rangelands and pastoralists that Dana and team are preparing.

Now that the various comments and suggestions have come in about terminology that could be used in Spanish, it might be best if you – as the original translator and as a Spanish speaker – would revise the Spanish version of the information text for use in Latin America and perhaps run it by the people who made suggestions.

The English version and indeed the revised French version and your original Spanish translation have been widely distributed in the meantime through the mailing list of the Pastoralist Knowledge Hub, and I hope the text is already serving the purpose of informing people in pastoralist organisations about the proposed IYRP and encouraging them to support the Mongolian proposal before the end of this month. I deliberately sent around the English text as a draft that could be adapted for different countries and regions. I heard from Barbara that the SRM has already revised it to suit a readership in North America.

Once I find some time – which will not be until after we get the IYRP website up and running – I and/or someone else in the ISG could go back to the English version of the information for pastoralists and revise it, for the purpose of setting up and strengthening regional groups preparing for the IYRP, in the hopes that this will be approved on 2 October.

It might be even more important to see if the Mongolian National Support Group and the ISG want to revise the IYRP flyer in English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese etc, which is much more of an "official” document. But maybe that, too, can wait until after the COAG meeting, when efforts will be focused on building up the regional groups.

What do the others in this list think?

Cheers,

Ann
