I mean - talk to owners of the sheep and not the sheep themselves 🤣🤣🤣

Dear Dana and all,
I knew that this year the Transhumance Festival of Madrid was originally planned for October 18, but was finally canceled because of COVID measures.
So no festival this year unfortunately!

Dear Pablo, and others,
What date is the Transhumance Festival, does anyone happen to know?
So wonderful to see such enthusiasm for this idea, I’m delighted also!
Best regards
Dana

Dear all,
I am extremely happy you are considered a similar joint action. The transit of the sheep herd through Madrid has been organized since 1994 and it has been very effective at putting mobile pastoralism in the public agenda because of the high visibility of the action, which is also a pretty positive celebration-like one. As a consequence, news on pastoralism make their way much more easily among Spanish media than among equivalent ones in e.g. the European Union. Consequently, positive policies for mobile pastoralism and drove roads, although very far from perfect, do have a positive comparative advantage in the country compared with neighbouring ones such as Portugal, France or Italy. Moreover, and because of my work specialization, I have frequently told by people from all over the world that they saw the Spanish sheep featured at their national broadcasters.
From what we have experienced in Spain, I think a joint, coordinated mobilization in several capital cities for a number of years on a row could have an extraordinary advocacy effect. I am pretty sure Trashumancia y Naturaleza would be happy to take part in such a global mobilization, adjusting their transit through Madrid to the agreed date.
Best,
Pablo

Yes, I am sure that can be done! We should work on that, maybe picking the date when herds move through Madrid?

Dear Fiona,
What a fantastic idea! Several years ago someone drive cattle over a bridge in the middle of Brisbane (capital of state of Queensland). Still quite legal evidently!
Maybe we could do this on the same day around the world?
Cheers
Dana

Gregorio and Mr Ganbayar - we should organise the same kind of event (droving of sheep through the city - for sure there are some ancient routes to follow) in Rome for IYRP!!

"Transhumance is a fundamental tool in land management and soil recovery; improvement of natural resources; water management; forest fire prevention and also in creating employment in rural areas. We must continue to work to make the authorities fully aware of the importance of its role in retro-innovation as a measure to combat the economic and climate crises…”
In honor of all Transhumance Festivals that TyN has been organizing for 27 years in Madrid, this past weekend they have presented a short video-documentary "Transhumance: walking and sowing for a sustainable future" (with English subtitles)
