 Hi all.
Thank you for the conversation on IYRP. In East Africa, some few organisations are aware of the movement towards IYRP. We have tried to share some materials especially the posters of IYRP to some organisations in Uganda and also sent some to others in other countries.
I remember to have read a presentation by Tesezra of Pastoralist Forum Ethiopia that he did in West Africa which I am sure some attention should have come to the West African CSOs. Some of the powerful institutions in West Africa like RBM might be of key interest to share out more information out.
Just thinking about using national and regional events to enlighten the IYRP.
Cheers

Hello all,

I would suggest also to send a message to the dgroups of the Pastoralist Knowledge Hub, that counts more than 1,000 subscribers, many of them representatives of pastoralist NGOs. I guess many of them would love being involved in the IYRP.

I hope this helps,

Serena

Dear Ann, Greg and others,
I could recommend an additional West African network but again the problem is that it is 100% francophone.
You can list me, as University of Helsinki. And Anders Oskal is written wrongly in the list, with a "c" instead of a "k".
Thanks,
Pablo

PS to all:

You are all invited to help update the table of international / regional / continental pastoralists organisations!

They should be part of the regional groupings that will prepare for the IYRP. Some are already represented in the ISG, but not all.

Cheers,
Ann

Dear Greg,

Quite some time ago, we drew up a list of pastoralist organisations that cover more than one country (umbrella organisations) and tried to inform them about the IYRP. We have periodically updated the table when we managed to obtain additional information. Those pastoralist organisation leaders who responded to our request were included in the International Support Group (see the list under https://globalrangelands.org/international-year-rangelands-and-pastoralists-initiative).

However, I fear that, in some cases, information that goes to the umbrella organisation does not always go to the member organisations under the umbrella. An additional complication is that all of our correspondence is in English, so the pastoralist organisations in francophone countries (and other parts of the world where English is not widely spoken) may not be (well) informed.

Attached is the current version of the table. Perhaps we should start identifying and contacting also the national pastoralist organisations? That is probably a task for the regional groupings that will be set up to prepare for the IYRP discussions at the IGC/IRC in Nairobi next year (a mail about that went around recently). Perhaps you could help in contacting those in francophone countries of West Africa, if you decide to join that regional group?

Cheers,
Ann

I contacted a few active pastoralist NGOs in West Africa to see if they were aware of the IYRP, and they had not heard of it.  I am thinking it might be useful to identify the active pastoralist NGOs in the world and see how we can get them involved.  Many of these NGOs have connections into the agricultural ministry in their national government.

Take care,
