Dear Ann,
Thank you for sharing this wonderful pepper. I added few comments too according to our research results and understanding from the work on yak and Tibetan sheep (see attached please).
All the best,
Ruijun

Dear Ann,
It is a very good paper already, thanks a lot. I've added a few suggestions (to make it easier, I placed them within the text) and comments too. And I agree with Maryam with the length of the text and the abstract part. Just that perhaps it may be better to have the abstract as in bullet point format (5-6 most significant messages of the text). Something like:
• Pastoralists are among family farmers as features of pastoralism fully reflect the definition and spirit of family farming used by the World Coordinating Committee for the IYFF and for the Decade of Family Farming.
• Pastoralism, as other family farmers, plays a crucial role for wellbeing of people and environment by its contributions to reducing hunger and poverty, providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development.
All the best,

Dear Ann
Very well written! I've added a few thoughts here and there - see attached.
It is too long, but I don't think we should shorten it. This is the first time we are making the case to the IDFF and it needs to be substantive. But we can add a half page "summary" or "abstract" at the beginning. In this, we would distill the main message from each of the 5 sections into 1-2 sentences each.

Dear IYRP Support Group members,
In late March in Spain, the World Rural Forum (WRF) is holding an international conference on family farming during which the agenda for the United Nations Decade of Family Farming (2019–28) for the national, regional and global levels will be developed. At the moment, the IYRP Support Group (ISG) has an observer’s seat in the WRF-hosted World Coordinating Committee (WCC) for the Decade. I will be attending the conference and the WCC meeting as “observer”. For the participants in this conference, the ISG member organisation CELEP (Coalition of European Lobbies for Eastern African Pastoralism) is collaborating with the International Land Coalition Rangelands Initiative (ILC-RI) in preparing a brief paper on "Pastoralists as family farmers".
We are assuming that the main audience/readership will be people wanting to promote the Decade of Family Farming who have included the word “pastoralists” in their definition of family farmers but have not thought about what this means – what are the specificities and major concerns of pastoralists as family farmers. This is what we want to explain.
Here is a first draft of the paper, which has already been shared with a group of about ten people in ILC-RI and with the seven other members of the CELEP core-group (of which I am also a member) for their comments.
Actually, the paper is longer than what I had originally hoped it would be for the purpose of sharing at the upcoming conference. I would therefore appreciate if you could indicate which parts of the paper could be left out – even though we might like to include (some of) them in a longer position paper planned by ILC-RI. Additions that you suggest would probably find their way into the longer paper rather than into this brief.
Please send any comments you may have by 28 February, so that I can incorporate the revisions and get the paper printed by CELEP before the conference. We hope also to be able to make a French translation.
Cheers,
Ann
