[IYRP General List] October 2024 update on the IYRP2026 Working Groups

Jon Davies, coordinator of the IYRP2026 Working Groups (WGs), has compiled an update about what the WGs are doing and have accomplished. As a reminder, in preparation fo 2026, the WGs are collating and analysing existing research results, identifying gaps in knowledge and information, analysing existing international policy related to their topic, identifying “targets” (international bodies, conventions, events etc) for science- and experience-based advocacy, strategising on the right messages for these targets and also disseminating messages for public awareness of how rangelands & pastoralists contribute to food security, economy, environment & cultural heritage. 

The current WGs are:
1.	Afforestation in Rangelands
2	Pastoralism & Gender
3.	Pastoralists & Water
4.	Rangelands & Land Degradation Neutrality
5.	Rangelands & Biodiversity
6.	Economics of Pastoralism
7.	Pastoralist Youth
8.	Pastoralism & Land
9.	Pastoralism & Climate Change
10.	Mountain Pastoralism

Anyone interested in being actively involved in one or more of these WGs should contact Jon (in cc) and he can connect you with WG coordinators. Or if you are interested in setting up a WG on a new topic important for rangelands and pastoralists, then suggest this to Jon and he can advise you how to go about it.
