Deas Ann and Myriam,
many thanks for sharing!
There are such encouraging and gratifying messages.
Congrats again for all have been working so hard and enthusiastically to
this result.
This week I have been working in a very important pastoral area of
Patagonia and many interesting questions have been set and discussed:
problems of drought and mines' exploitations of pastures, above all.
I discussed with many Mapuche families about the increase of predators'
threats, due to the pressure of increasingly frequent wood fires and
different methods they are adopting to defend their animals, but also with
many researchers of the local Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia agropecuaria
who are working on local sustainable development project such as wool
laboratories, milk processing and so on. There is a very strong attention
and expectation in this context toward the visibility and value that the
path of the IYRP26 can give to pastoral issues and to rangelands, pastures
and eco-systemic value of pastoralist practice. Considered the high
relevance that pastoralism, not only intensive, but even the more extensive
and small producers' one have in Argentina, I thinks it should be good to
work into this line of work asap. It should be something very inspiring and
important to address.
I'll still have both a fieldwork on pastoralism in Italy than in this area
(Patagonia Argentina) and I'll be glad to keep the group informed about
these questions and fieldworks and to organize local events and specific
focus on this on the road and during the IYRP2026, beyond the commitment
that all of us have in the overall dissemination plan of the Year.
Best regards to all of you.
letizia

Best, letizia
