[Iyrp-gcg] UNFSS Pastoralism as a Sustainable Food System

We/ILRI plan to (re)launch a coalition that had been established under the UNFSS some years back but never followed up – it was established by us, WWF and the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (its bit of a long story but anyway, this ‘coalition’ is still there). With IYRP coming up and GEF’s new funding cycle focused on food systems this seems an opportunity time to raise the issues and get support.  We aim to relaunch it at the UNFSS Stock take in Addis in July and will request the African Union and Mongolia to co-host, and we are also putting in application for a side event on pastoralist women and food systems.

I have included IYRP as a partner – hope that is ok – and I can talk more about this at the next GCG meeting. In the meantime the concept notes are attached, and happy to have any input – we really want to focus on the food, food system, food security aspect, so any thoughts on this are most welcome. Will also be discussing in more detail in the gender WG – can be an opportunity to share the recipe book for example.
