Dear Igshaan,
Thanks for this letter, and I think it is great. Please endorse it on behalf of ILC as well. I would like to see, as mentioned, a more explicit mention of pastoralists as custodians of rangelands and a direction towards inclusive rangelands governance as tenure is already part of the GBF targets as well as key to LDN. I would mention the role of mobility in contributing to environmental conservation and rangeland restoration, and invite them to discuss with the IYRP group and other key stakeholders if they feel that incorporating rangelands and pastoralists might be strategically interesting.
Best,
Natasha

Dear Igshaan, dear Global Coordinating Group,
On behalf of the WAMIP Steering Committee, we thank you for the initiative and the work you have put into preparing the letter to the GEF CEO, as well as adding revisions to highlight pastoralists at a greater extent based on feedback from some of our members.
Yet, we would like to bring the attached letter to the attention of IYRP International Support Group and Global Coordinating Group, calling for more representation and visibility of pastoralists in the organisation and engagement under the IYRP. Please find our detailed feedback in the letter.
We hope that these points can be taken into consideration, and we remain open to further discussion to strengthen our collective efforts for the success of IYRP 2026.
Kind regards,
Aliya Kumekbayeva (she/her)

Dear GCG members
The IYRP and some of our supporters and supporting organisations, had been having discussions on how work on rangelands and sustainable pastoralism could be funded in the future. Given the great work for the environment that GEF projects have been doing for some time, there is still scope for the projects to increase their focus on rangelands. With the new GEF9 scheme in the pipeline, we thought that we should write to the GEF CEO to initiave a process where we can engage them on prioritizing rangelands as well.
I have signed the letter to the GEF CEO (attached), but ask whether GCG members would want to add their support to this letter and we will attach the names of the GCG members who support our call to prioritize rang;ands. We just need an email from you on whether you support this, and we will add your name, institution and country to the list. No need for everyone to sign the document.
Kind regards
IYRP ISG co-chair
