Dear Igshaan,

This is a brilliant idea and I support it. I must say, I have no idea how the same works but, it will be an opportunity for me to learn more around it.

Subject: [Iyrp-gcg] IYRP fundraising

Dear IYRP GCG member

I hope you are doing well.

As the IYRP continues to gain strength (support, technical outputs, etc.) as we move closer to 2026, we are still confronted with the two large components we urgently need to address and improve on. These are communications and fundraising (particularly at a global level).

A proposal is being presented here where there is an urgent need to develop a global communications strategy to amongst others, reach people and institutions that we normally do not interact with. We need to make the IYRP circle bigger, if I may put it that way. For an effective communications strategy, we need funds. We have approached many people within the IYRP ISG who might be able to voluntarily assist with communications, but we understand, everyone has a limited capacity. While few people have offered limited assistance, it is nowhere enough to get the IYRP communications "machine" fully functional and to do what we want it to do. As such, we need to have more people on board, and would have to compensate them for their time, which we fully understand.

Prior to setting up a global communications team of volunteers and appointed members, we need the communications strategy. Given that the development of such a strategy will also require human resources, and itself might be costly, we seeked the support of the Yolda Initiative, an NGO based in Turkey, whose is led by Engin Yilmaz, who has been a very active member within the various structures of the IYRP for some time now. This would ensure that we have an in-house institution who understands what the IYRP wants to achieve but also would be more cost effective for the IYRP. Yolda, who would have to use human resources to develop the communications strategy, would have to cover their expenses, which we agree with. Therefore, it is proposed that we embark on a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the development of a global IYRP communications strategy.

I, therefore, seek your opinion and endorsement of doing a crowdfunding campaign to develop our communications strategy. It would be appreciated if we can have your comments by 25 Sept 2023. The crowdfunding platform suggested is GoFundMe, and those who have knowledge and experience of this platform are encouraged to comment.

Once the strategy is developed, we will at our next GCG meeting, discuss an extended fundraising campaign to fund the communications of the IYRP, which would include approaching IYRP ISG members and other philanthropic organizations.

Kind regards
Igshaan Samuels
