Dear GCG members

Please see the upcoming webinar below. I do not know much about it
personally, so if anyone else does, please do enlighten us.
I hope to attend the webinar and I especially really hope that it will be a
tool to help stop indiscriminate tree planting everywhere, and
especially help us to be careful about biomes such as grasslands and
rangelands.

In the last GCG meeting, it was proposed by Jurgen and there were no
objections, that we would set up a sub-group to look at this issue of
indiscriminate tree planting in grasslands and rangelands. The Global
Events Sub-Group has discussed this recently, and in addition Ann has
collated the spontaneous email discussion among the ISG that we had
starting last november. I am in the process of contacting a few IYRP
partners to see their interest to join such a sub-group, and I hope to get
back to you soon with some ideas on what the sub-group would achieve.

Ecosystem restoration is a complex process, from identifying in-need
landscapes to determining best practices for planting trees and promoting
natural regeneration. To help restoration actors, funders and other
partners plan, carry out and monitor successful projects, FAO and WRI have
created AURORA, a web application named for *Assessment, Understanding and
Reporting of Restoration Activities.*

experiences.
