<span style="font-family:"Cambria Math",serif;color:#0F4761">As you know, there are many questions regarding what the FY26 Federal Government Budget for research will look like in the end. This email and attachment update from Lewis-Burke
is focused on agricultural research funding, which is one focal area of our division.

<span style="font-family:"Cambria Math",serif;color:#0F4761">

<span style="font-family:"Cambria Math",serif;color:#0F4761">Specifically, recall that the President’s Budget Request (PBR) proposed very substantive reductions in agricultural research funding across the board. Conversely, the House Proposal
(summary in attached) is much closer to FY25 funding levels, with some exceptions. The next step is for the Senate Appropriations Committee to consider its version of the bill this summer.

<span style="font-family:"Cambria Math",serif;color:#0F4761">

<span style="font-family:"Cambria Math",serif;color:#0F4761">The bottom line is that there is still a large degree of uncertainty as to where research funding in FY26 will land because of the large differences between the PRB and congressional
proposals. While this particular update is focused on agriculture (e.g., USDA) funding, this suggests that there may also be significant differences between congressional and presidential budget requests in biomedical/environmental health (e.g., NIH) and
basic life sciences (e.g., NSF) as well.
