I'm very pleased to announce that Dr. Jia Hu, Associate Professor in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, will be our new CALS Assistant Dean for Graduate Education. </div>

In addition to her SNRE faculty position, Dr. Hu is an Affiliate Faculty with the Laboratory of Tree Ring Research, and serves as principal investigator for the Hu lab (thehulab.com) which studies global ecosystems and relationships between plants, water, soil
and climate. She is also the Director of the Southwest Climate Adaptation Science Center, a collaboration between the U.S. Geological Survey and universities to ensure the co-production of actionable science. Prior to working with the University of Arizona,
Jia held positions at Montana State University, University of Sydney, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and Colorado State University. She earned her BA in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley and her PhD in Ecology
and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Colorado. </div>

For the past 3 years, Jia has served as Associate Director of SNRE, primarily on issues related to Graduate education. She is excited to expand her capacity by working with Departments and Schools across CALS to ensure that our graduate students maximize their
career opportunities across a wide range of sectors. </div>

Jia will retain her faculty status within SNRE even as she steps into this new administrative role for the college. Jia's new title of Assistant Dean for Graduate Education formally begins in August with the start of the new academic year, but she will be
working and planning in a number of graduate education project areas between now and then. </div>
