Dear CALES faculty,

Dear CALES Faculty,

Please note this short fuse opportunity. The equivalent of 1.0 FTE for one year funding is available for postdoctoral scientists at UA. The funds can be paid over 1, 2, or 3 years (if more than one year, FTE funded by the postdoctoral support is reduced accordingly. Submissions are due this coming Wednesday by 5 pm.

Dear ADRs,

We have received a request for a funding plan for postdoctoral support from The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation with the intent to:
"...support postdoctoral researchers working in the range of natural science disciplines supported by the foundation.
Eligible fields include astronomy, astrophysics, atomic physics, biophysics, chemical physics, condensed matter physics (including quantum materials, soft matter and polymers), fluid dynamics, molecular physics, optical physics, plasma physics, precision measurements, quantum information, and materials science; systems biology, evolutionary biology, cellular biology, molecular biology, and microbiology; and Earth and planetary sciences, green chemistry, ecology and biodiversity."*

Please note that the foundation does NOT support disease -oriented or clinical research.

To determine how to distribute these funds, we are asking you to identify faculty and other campus researchers in your college who could use this support for their postdocs.

Faculty or supervising researchers can apply for up to 1 FTE of funding per postdoctoral researcher, calculated according to FY26 baseline postdoc compensation and ERE rates.
Funds may be used in a single year or distributed evenly over a period of up to three years.
We are looking for faculty and supervising researchers that:
(1) show a fit with the aims of the Moore Foundation and their funding priorities and/or
(2) show potential impact in the research trajectory of the lab or the postdoctoral researcher.

We also invite those whose funding for postdoctoral researchers has been interrupted to apply. Funding interruption will not be the primary criteria for selection but will be taken into consideration.

Logistics for Submitting
* One application per postdoc. Supervising researchers and faculty may submit more than one application, if they would like multiple postdocs considered.
* Differences in base pay as well as increases in base pay, if spread over 3 years, will need to be covered by the college/department or outside funding.
* Current postdocs or approved positions to be filled in FY26 may be submitted for consideration.
* If funding over 2-3 years, the funding must go to the same postdoc. * If you have any questions, reach out to Marie Teemant.
*List is not comprehensive. Moore Foundation explicitly precludes clinical and disease-based research. Reach out if you have questions about the eligibility of a faculty or supervising researcher.

Please forward this email to researchers you have identified.
Applications are due CoB September 24th.
