Dear Research Community,

This is a friendly reminder that all Investigators participating in any research activities at the University (whether funded or non-funded, including any human subjects research) are required to complete a disclosure of Outside Interests and Outside Activity* before beginning any research. This includes disclosing any Foreign Interests<https://research.arizona.edu/foreign-interests>, Significant Financial Interests<https://research.arizona.edu/significant-financial-interest>, Significant Personal Interests<https://research.arizona.edu/significant-personal-interest>, and Outside Commitments<https://research.arizona.edu/OROI/OutsideActivity>. For those involved in federally funded research (including sub-federal awards), your disclosure must be up to date at the time of proposal submission (i.e., certified within the past 365 days).

*        An Investigator<https://research.arizona.edu/faq/who-investigator> is defined as any person who shares the responsibility of Conducting Research. This includes, but is not limited to, the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, Co-Investigator, Project Director (PD), Co-PD, Senior/Key Personnel, and any other person, regardless of title or position, who is responsible for Conducting Research performed by or under the auspices of the University. Disclosures must be updated:

*        Annually

*        Within 30 days of acquiring a new Outside Interest or Outside Activity or a change to an existing one



Disclosing Research: Please also remember that a Research Certification is required for all sponsored and non-sponsored research projects, including:

*        Scientific investigations

*        Research fellowships or training programs

*        Research-related activities at all academic levels (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral)

Reminder: As University Employees and/or researchers, you must not:

Interactions include, but are not limited to, speaking engagements, visits, research collaborations, faculty appointments, professional staff, or administrators.





Your timely completion of these disclosures, certifications and training helps ensure compliance with U of A and federal requirements and supports the integrity of our research enterprise.


*Federal funding agencies assess for any conflicts of commitment that may impact the ability of the individual to carry out the research effort as proposed. The information is also used by federal funding agencies to assess any potential scientific overlap<https://research.arizona.edu/faq/what-scientific-overlap> an/or budgetary overlap<https://research.arizona.edu/faq/what-budgetary-overlap> with the project being proposed. This is why we now ask that all Investigators, regardless of their U of A FTE, disclose their Outside Commitments.
