I hope that this email finds you well on your way to enjoying a week of feasting, being surrounded by loved ones, and sleeping late. We have all earned this.

Yes, 2024 was not without its challenges. But looking back, we do have some cause for celebration -  our Research and Extension faculty remain a primary resource for dependable and accurate information on climate change and water quality - it is because of CALES that the UofA maintains its title of the #2 Water Resources program in the United States. This year, our research activities approached (and may have exceeded) $100 million! Also in 2024, teaching faculty maintained classroom/online excellence and a record number of dossiers for promotion were submitted in 2024 by Career-Track professors. Though UofA finance woes kept all of us awake at night, CALES Administrators, Faculty Senators, and the ALVSCE Faculty Council kept us appraised on budget activities and plans for the near future. In the end, we made it through a tough year - and I look forward to working beside all of you in 2025 towards continued success.

I hope that I'm not sounding too trite - I realize that 2024 was not all rosy and continued tough times lie ahead. I spent a lot of time in 2024 meeting with individual faculty and faculty groups and acting on concerns raised. Please know that this will continue next year - if you want to talk about workload, teaching/research needs, or just need a sympathetic ear for a chat, I am here for you. I can't promise that I will solve all problems, but I am a good listener and I will do my utmost to continue my service to the faculty of the finest College at the UofA.

**If you don't have plans for New Year's Eve yet, Los Lobos will be rocking the Fox Theater and that is BOUND to be a memorable event!! I hear that this concert is almost, but not quite fully, sold out.
