Good afternoon everyone!
I wanted to pass along the Committee on Conciliation still needs CALES faculty (TT/POPs/Extension) to nominate for the committee. The committee does not meet that often it appears, and might be good for those looking for university level service:

The nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday 12, and can be sent to Amelia Kraehe (akraehe at arizona.edu). She forwarded a sample statement of interest to help.
GIPE, LAWRENCE C. Associate Professor. School of Art, College of Fine Arts. I received my B.F.A. at Virginia Commonwealth University and my M.F.A. at Otis Art Institute at Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, CA. I joined the UA faculty in 2006. My current practice ranges across painting, drawing, activism, video installations and environmentally themed curatorial projects. In 2014, I was a co-recipient of a Confluence Grant for “Documenting Operation Streamline”, an on-going drawing project recording the plight of illegal immigrants on their journey through the Arizona court system and the controversial “Operation Streamline” process; this project acted with the School of Journalism and the Special Collections Collection to create a digital archive related to border issues in the UA library. My latest curatorial project, how swift, how far, is a group exhibition that engages environmentalism beyond the realm of “documentary” images, showing transformative and metaphorical works about the various ecologies we inhabit; it opens August 2023 at Wonzimer Gallery in Los Angeles. Regarding this committee specifically, I would say while the creation of art is a solitary process, the considerable balance of an art career involves collaboration and negotiation - with students, curators, writers, colleagues, non-profit and for-profit gallerists, clients, and the community at large when curating a large open call. In my role as instructor, I teach small classes and, in advanced courses I allow them to use the content of their choice, which creates conversations that sometimes need a “mediating” stance.
Take care
Tim
