For your convenience, proposal guidelines and templates for the support letter and budget are attached. Please review all submission information at the link above.

2. Draft support letters signed by unit head sent to vpalvsce at email.arizona.edu<mailto:vpalvsce at email.arizona.edu>

Please prepare a letter of support in consultation with your unit head on unit letterhead according to the attached template that includes a space for signatures by the unit head and the Dean (Shane Burgess). This signed letter will need to accompany your final submission in the Competition Space Portal. Please see the instructions above for submitting your draft letter for review and the Dean’s signature. The signed letter will be returned to you for submission along with your proposal and budget spreadsheet.

Priority funding areas for Fall 2022:

  * Increasing students’ success, graduation, and retention, especially for groups underrepresented within the relevant disciplines
  * Promoting growth and opportunities to generate new revenues for the institution
  *   Expanding student experiential learning
  *   Enhancing research capacity
  *   Promoting diversity and inclusivity

PIF proposal reviewers emphasize the following points:

  * Alignment of proposals with university and/or college strategic directions must be more than superficial. Merely mentioning the relevant UA strategic pillars is not a winning strategy.
  * The sustainability plan must clearly indicate how this program/entity will be supported beyond the PIF funding period. PIF projects are intended to kickstart sustained activities with long term impact at the university, college and/or unit level.
  * Although research related proposals that enhance research capacity will be considered, support to launch and develop defined research projects, equipment requests, support for research workshops, etc should be submitted to one of the several <https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> i<https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding>nternal RII funding mechanisms.<https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> <https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> Contact Parker Antin if you have questions about which program (PIF vs. RII) is most appropriate for your proposal.

We will be pleased to work with you to develop a competitive PIF proposal.

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that the Provost's Investment Fund<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b8138b2e145670c10bcdc9158458fb01715f1c639b67fd6ff1a7ad7c6eb02350f057b14dd39caf21ac5abfb7225b606491d> (PIF) has $1 million available to be awarded for the fall 2022 competitive cycle.

I am seeking proposals from faculty and staff that are innovative and aspirational, and have goals that are explicitly aligned with the University's strategic plan<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b81d7e0bbcff2fae63b8fa71091795883de85e8a16b5240f756f223c658f063bbaa375a80e217c5effe1aa0b634ba3db6af> and the following institutional priorities:

  * Increasing students’ success, graduation, and retention, especially for groups underrepresented within the relevant disciplines.
  * Promoting growth and opportunities to generate new revenue for the institution.
  *   Expanding student experiential learning.
  *   Enhancing research capacity.
  *   Promoting diversity and inclusion.

Funding requests can range from $15,000 to $100,000 per year for a maximum of two years. The initiative is expected to be financially sustainable through the generation of new resources or the reallocation of other resources after the PIF funding period.

Timeline
Please submit your proposals online through Arizona Cultivate<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b814497d362acc9c63321bb09da2b9f869d4bd371ce89cbd293c723b5f9c6b7bcc98556af3bd42637e93034fbaa10479d50> no later than noon, Wednesday, Oct. 19. The system will not accept applications after the deadline.
Proposal Workshop
We will hold a PIF Proposal Workshop at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14. During this virtual meeting, we will cover submission requirements, the review process, and funding priorities. Participants also will hear and learn from past PIF reviewers. Pleaseregister<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b8103050d7cab2d54e3092611253a33127993e638284bb53d82526d670daba1392cf1cab1acf047980eeb958ff6f8ef6b62> to participate. The meeting will be recorded and available on the Office of the Provost website<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b815ec1f9da55562cb4a01ec86e24cd2daac66148411a0f2a3eec72d641ba5211e64b5cde02a2a33bcfc841c09a0d275c00>.
Proposal Review
I welcome the insights and expertise of anyone interested in serving on the PIF Review Committee. If you would like to submit your name for consideration, please complete the intake form<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b81a69d50436e7662be79832ce9d1117a952e1a3d5575491e2d02edf0435b66c1b0be7ccf52133123423b5398675d911fe9> by Friday, Sept. 16. Those who are selected to serve on the committee will receive $250 in operational support.

PIF is designed to ensure that we can be nimble and proactive in funding high-impact projects that align with University’s strategic goals and support our ambitions for institutional excellence and distinctiveness.

In fiscal year 2022, we allocated more than $18 million from PIF to colleges and units across campus to support various programs and initiatives<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=535246da77645b816992922ac4496750ae3b3d98a260efe068c730837ec9317f121dfa5dd6bba2e1f7d2a541f267d76ce6e8b95dc13b5d32> funded in fiscal year 2022.

I look forward to receiving more great ideas from you.
