Good afternoon, I have fielded many questions this week regarding the attached memo from Dean Burgess outlining the processes we will be instituting to ensure diverse pools in faculty searches. This afternoon I had a conversation with Judy Kiyama in the Vice Provost's office and she clarified a few things for me.

When chairs of hiring committees reach out to me with information regarding candidate diversity, I will not be searching for target numbers or percentages. Rather, I will be looking to ascertain that diversity was a strong consideration during the recruitment and screening processes. Your information to me can include: Where did you recruit? Did you recruit among affinity groups - such as minority groups in professional organizations? Do you have an understanding of current diversity represented in the field where you're recruiting? This last question is a tough one but any information you can give me would be helpful - The Chronicle of Higher Education has some information here<https://www.chronicle.com/article/race-ethnicity-and-gender-of-full-time-faculty/> but it is limited. If you know of other sites that can be used to develop diversity targets, please share them.

Please do not share names of candidates with me - ethnicity and gender is sensitive information that should not be shared by email.
