Everyone, today I spoke by phone with Mr. Chris Kopach, UA’s Assistant Vice President, Facilities Management. Chris is responsible for all UA physical plant and custodial services. A number of us have worked with Chris and his team in the past on some very challenging issues. He’s been great to work with.

For campus re-entry Chris is responsible for, and laser focused on our buildings’ roles in personnel and student safety and disease mitigation. I hope you can imagine the workload and pressures on Chris and his team as they prepare for whatever reality will be weeks away, especially as the published data about risks of SARS COV2 infection inside buildings snowballs and CDC as well as medical guidance evolves.

Chris and I are now finding a date and time for a townhall for you to discuss infection risk, and risk mitigation, inside UA buildings FOR TEACHING ONLY. I know that whatever time is able to be scheduled that it will not work for everyone. However, the townhall will be recorded and if you cannot join the townhall live, please submit your questions by REPLY all. This way Jeannie, Mike and I will see them and you don’t have to submit a question if it has already been submitted. I have told Chris about my personal concerns about airflows within building spaces like lecture halls and he will address that issue.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TOWN HALL IS ABOUT TEACHING AND NOT RESEARCH. If you have questions associated with research, please work with you unit head and Parker Antin as you do now. Chris is working with the VPRII and ADRs on research issues.

Regards
Shane
