Dear CALS Faculty,
Greetings from the CALS Career Center (CC). Bridget, Valeria, and I hope this message finds you doing well.
Like us, you are probably getting a lot of questions from students seeking advice on how to approach the current and expected job market, whether that be for internships or post-graduation placement. Accordingly, the below message went out to students from the CC at the start of the week. Please note that opportunities still and will continue to exist for students who are creative, flexible, and resilient - three core characteristics of the entrepreneurial mindset!
We will continue over the remainder of the semester to provide students with tips and resources for aligning their career development strategies with the current conditions, as well as with strategies for enhancing their entrepreneurial mindsets in unique and compelling ways. We will also continue to share these messages over faculty channels to further support you in advising and mentoring your students during these unprecedented times.
Best wishes,
Matt

Message from CALS Career Center: Keep Applying, Companies ARE Hiring
Students have been asking, "Are companies still hiring? Should I still apply for jobs and internships? Is there any possibility of finding a job?" The answer is definitively - keep applying, companies ARE hiring.
The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting businesses and higher education institutions around the globe and everyone is working to determine paths forward. Forward is the progress we need to be making during this time and this period is offering us all time to pivot and develop transferable skills. The Career Center staff is here to help you figure out your path and provide you guidance and insight to what lies ahead.
Who's Hiring? The Career Center has been monitoring the job market closely and we are happy to share that there are opportunities. However, this is the time to be strategic and consider opportunities in a variety of areas - spread the search as widely as possible. Being agile and entrepreneurial during this complex time will be your biggest advantage in finding employment. Employers are looking for those individuals who can adapt to new and challenging situations like the one we currently face.

It was reassuring that 81% of agricultural employers are continuing recruitment and hiring despite the pandemic.
