Dear Faculty,
On behalf of Dr. Kevin Fitzsimmons, Director, International Initiatives, and myself, Tammy Orr, Peace Corps Prep Program Coordinator, we would like to introduce you to our new Peace Corps Campus Recruiter, Hannah Martin, and to exciting Peace Corps opportunities for your students. We also want to make you aware of our UA Peace Corps Prep Program (PCPP) for your undergraduate students interested in Peace Corps Service or other international fieldwork.
A previous Peace Corps volunteer herself, Hannah will be working with students as they consider service after graduation, assisting them with the application process, and helping them discover the various Peace Corps opportunities around the world.
The Peace Corps is continuously looking for qualified individuals to serve in the Agriculture and Environment Sectors- which many of our CALS students are! Some examples of Peace Corps positions in these sectors include:
* Sustainable Agriculture Educator
* Business Advising Agriculture Volunteer
* Community Conservation Promoter
* Environment and Food Security Educator.
The Peace Corps also offers many benefits to volunteers, both during and after service. Some benefits include a living stipend, paid vacation, Graduate school benefits (including scholarships), extensive technical and foreign language training, international field experience, and a huge network of previous volunteers!
And to help undergraduate students prepare to apply to the Peace Corps, The University of Arizona, in partnership with the Peace Corps, has established the UA Peace Corps Prep Program, open to students in any major. Now in our second year, we have around 30 students enrolled, and our first PCPP graduate just arrived in Morocco in July to begin her service. Information about the Prep Program can be found at www.peacecorps.arizona.edu<http://www.peacecorps.arizona.edu>.
Hannah is currently scheduling class talks to introduce students to the Peace Corps. Please consider giving Hannah 5-10 minutes at the beginning of your class to share information about these career opportunities with our students. You can contact Hannah directly at pcorps at cals.arizona.edu<mailto:pcorps at cals.arizona.edu>.
Thank you in advance for reaching out to Hannah and feel free to reach out to me with any questions about the Prep Program. Kevin and I both have offices in Forbes and Hannah is in the UA Career Services office in the Student Union.
Tammy
