Dear CALS Faculty and Staff:
I am pleased to announce a new CALS initiative, the Collaboratory for Anti-Infectives and Therapeutic Strategies (CATS).
CATS aligns existing CALS strengths in microbiology, vaccine technology and the animal microbiome with the rapidly expanding need for novel therapeutics to both known and emerging infectious agents. With the threat of emerging and re-emerging human and veterinary infectious agents likely to increase, the next phase of veterinary and human antimicrobial strategies will need to include new methods for vaccine development, novel biologic agents including anti-virulence compounds, and microbiome engineering.
With demonstrated intersecting capacity in human and animal health studies, and anticipated synergy with the new College of Veterinary Medicine, CALS is uniquely positioned to be a leader in the discovery and development of novel anti-infectives and therapeutic strategies.
I would like to invite all interested faculty to an organizational meeting on March 18, 2019 from 11am to 1pm in the Sabino Room of the Student Union to discuss this initiative and to develop a common vision, mission and objectives. I have asked Drs. Gayatri Vedantam and Vish Viswanathan to lead the development phase of this new initiative. Please let us know that you will be attending by registering at the following link:

I look forward to seeing you on March 18.
Best regards,
Parker
