[Faculty] CONFIDENTIAL: Ballot for potential honorary degree nominee from CALS to remain open until 12/5

Good morning -

I received word this morning that the Provost's Office has extended the university deadline for these honorary degree nominations until Friday, December 21.  I understand the interim provost also shared this news late yesterday at the Quarterly Leadership Report Meeting with deans and unit heads.  To give you some background on the timeline for this process, on November 15 I stumbled across a call for nominations that had been posted to the provost's website.  I immediately requested an extension for CALS to the November 30 deadline and this has now been approved for the entire university, but we have had to operate until today with the original deadline at hand.  Shane asked me to alert you right away that the ballot for your votes will now remain open through next Wednesday, December 5.  If you didn't have a chance to attend yesterday's meeting, to review the materials about the potential CALS nominee or to vote, here are the links for all.

Shane is on the road in Yuma today and headed to Yavapai County this evening, but he has also asked me to extend his appreciation for all those who worked under such a tight deadline in order to review the nomination from AREC --- and especially to the faculty in AREC who also worked quickly in order to advance a nomination.  We'll continue to work with the Provost's Office to secure reasonable deadlines.

For your reference, attached is a copy of the policy and procedures for honorary degrees at the University of Arizona.

Please cast your vote at the link below for whether or not the college should advance the nomination discussed at today's meeting.  A secure link to the letter of nomination was distributed yesterday afternoon.

A tally of the results will be provided to Vice President Burgess at 1pm on Wednesday, November 28 so no votes cast after that time will be included.  If CALS votes to advance a nomination to the university, the nomination packet must be finalized by Friday.

We have recorded the webcast for today's meeting and are hoping to have a link to the recording earlier than these are normally available --- the recordings normally take a day to post.  I'll circulate that as soon as I have it, but have no guarantee it will be available any sooner than tomorrow.
