Inspiring Ideas in Philanthropy: GIFT Center Library
In her book, Development for Academic Leaders, Penelope Hunt introduces new fundraisers to the fundraising cycles of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship while describing various types funding opportunities. She also describes the importance of determining which opportunity is the best fit for a successful solicitation and highlights the importance of participating in your institution’s overall fundraising efforts. Up to $5,000 will be awarded to support research at the Center for Creative Photography by curators, writers, and researchers investigating the life and work of Kenneth J. Botto. Photographers working to incorporate set-up, collage, or constructed imagery or photographers whose work is a critical comment on political, social, and/or art historical issues in society are also welcome to apply. Advanced scholars and researchers from any discipline are encouraged to apply. Pre-doctoral applicants must have completed coursework and preliminary examinations for the doctoral degree and must be engaged in dissertation research.
University of Arizona Cancer Center – Cancer Prevention and Control Postdoctoral Training Fellowship<https://uafoundation.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d7da969976ad1054115e901b0&id=c7d05d7950&e=55ed7015bc>

Individuals from primary disciplines of cancer prevention will be selected to to be trained through a multidisciplinary approach involving formal coursework, seminar series, workshops, conferences, and interactions with mentors. Fellowship amounts range from $43,000 to $50,000/year, including health benefits and additional funds for research support, and travel. Individuals with a doctoral degree in public health, medicine, epidemiology, basic science, community psychology, sociology, or related health science degrees are encouraged to apply.

The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund works with purpose and passion on behalf of wildlife and habitats worldwide. Applications are being accepted for projects aligning with one of many conservation priorities including species research on reintroduction and programs designed to reduce wildlife trafficking and enforce wildlife trade laws. Although there is no limit to the size of grant requests, most grants will range between $10,000 and $25,000.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a member-led organization dedicated to the well-being and lifelong success of college athletes. The program will award grants of up to $25,000 to member institutions that are piloting on-campus programs designed to enhance the well-being of NCAA student-athletes. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following: managing transitions, identity development, stress management, substance use, bystander intervention, cultivating healthy relationships, career exploration, and sport exit strategies.

Rotary International is accepting applications for its Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust Fund, a program designed to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer's disease research projects in the United States. Grants of up to $250,000 will be awarded in support of early and conceptual plans for projects that might not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but that have potential to substantially advance biomedical research. Letters of intent must be received no later than December 1, 2017. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application.

The Hope Foundation SEED Fund will award grants that encourage research and potentially translate to future clinical trials or trial-associated projects. Up to $50,000 (direct costs) may be awarded. Indirect costs are limited to a rate of 25 percent. Though funding is awarded for investigator-initiated projects, funds will be administered directly to an institution.

Since 1933, the American Philosophical Society has awarded small grants to scholars in order to support the cost of research leading to publication in any area of knowledge. Grants of up to $6,000 will be awarded to help meet the costs of travel to libraries and archives for research purposes along with other related expenses. Applicants are expected to have a doctorate or to have published work of doctoral character and quality. PhD candidates are not eligible to apply, but the society is interested in supporting the work of young scholars who have recently received their doctorate.

The Gerber Foundation is accepting concept papers for health and/or nutrition-related research projects with the potential to have a significant impact on issues facing infants and young children from birth to three years of age. Grants of up to $350,000 will be awarded for research projects focused on care provider issues that, when implemented, will improve the health, nutrition, and/or developmental outcomes for infants and young children. Applications should include practical solutions that can be easily and rapidly implemented on a broad scale within a predictable time frame to clinical application.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Catalyst Grant supports junior faculty in conducting pancreatic cancer research while establishing successful career paths in the field. The Catalyst Grant provides $500,000 over three years. Proposed research may be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to pancreatic cancer.

Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded in support of basic, translational, or clinical research projects in head and neck oncology. Clinical or translational research studies are strongly encouraged and should be specifically related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, or pathophysiology of head and neck neoplastic disease. Letters of intent must be received no later than December 15, 2017. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by January 16, 2018.

The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) is dedicated to fostering the widespread adoption and improvement of organic farming systems in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. OFRF provides funding for research in the priority areas of soil health, innovative weed control, management of emerging insect and disease issues, and livestock health. One-year grants of up to $20,000 are available for research projects related to any production, social, economic, or policy-related topic of concern to organic farmers and/or ranchers. Applicants should articulate how the proposed research project will foster the improvement or adoption of organic farming systems.

The AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence, in partnership with the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), is accepting applications for its Research and Dissertation Fellows Program. This grant program awards $50,000 to scholars and $25,000 to doctoral students to support year-long research projects and is designed to promote scholarship on issues related to access, affordability, and the value of legal education. Membership to the AccessLex Institute or AIR is not required to apply.

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago invite outstanding doctoral students to apply for the eighth cohort of Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being. Fellowships are designed to identify and develop a new generation of leaders interested in, and capable of, creating practice and policy initiatives that enhance child development and improve the nation's ability to prevent all forms of child maltreatment. Fellows will receive an annual stipend of $30,000 for up to two years for completion of their dissertation and related research at their academic institution.

The DeVos Institute of Arts Management provides training, consultation, and implementation support for arts managers and their boards. Applications are being accepted for its annual fellowship program, which provides intensive training in arts and cultural management, artistic planning, marketing, fundraising, evaluation, and finance for mid-career arts managers over a three-year period. Fellows attend a four-week residency in Washington, D.C., each summer for three consecutive years and receive funds for their transportation between Washington, D.C. and their country of residence; lodging during the fellowship; and program materials. Letters of intent must be received no later than December 15, 2017. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by January 30, 2018.

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation seeks to accelerate breakthroughs in research by providing the best young scientists with funds to pursue innovative cancer research. All projects containing theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and the search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies, and prevention are eligible. A stipend of $231,000 over four years will be awarded along with an annual $2,000 expense allowance for educational and scientific expenses. The award may not be used for institutional overhead or indirect costs.
