Drs. Welch and Louafi have established a global research agenda on the global bioeconomy that integrates researchers and institutions in North America and Europe, as well as in developing countries. The agenda includes biopolicy relevant research initiatives that integrate global and local scales and contingent objectives - capacity development, knowledge production and innovation. It recognizes the importance of theoretically informed multidisciplinary empirical research to address key social, economic, environmental issues relevant to the evolving socio-biological context.
