The new Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) is now accepting nominations for the New Innovator in Food and Agriculture Research Award<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=3ce3676287&e=9deae42247>. The Award will fund new faculty and their teams of graduate students and post-doctoral scholars to conduct innovative research with potential to expand the availability of food and facilitate the global practice of sustainable agriculture as the world’s population grows to more than 9 billion people by the year 2050. The program is intended to shine a spotlight on food and agriculture sciences and elevate the field in the scientific arena.

FFAR will award each applicant up to $100,000 per year for three years, with an additional $100,000 required cash match for a total award of up to $600,000. The 1:1 match must be from a non-federal source. Institutions of higher education in the United States are invited to nominate one applicant for this inaugural award.

Important dates:

  *   College/Institute review internal deadline:  On or about January 6, 2016.
  *   Office for Research & Discovery internal review deadline:  January 11, 2016.
  *   Sponsor Deadline:  Nominations Close: January 20, 2016; Selected Nominees Invited to Apply: February 3, 2016; Applications Due: March 8, 2016.
Interested scholars that meet the eligibility criteria (U.S. Institution of Higher Education Faculty Member hired on or after September 1, 2012, see link above for additional details) are asked to submit a nomination request to their deans for referral to the Office for Research & Discovery by the internal deadline. Nomination requests should include:

  1.  General Information:
     *   Nominee Name & Title
     *   Nominee Department
     *   Nominee Email
     *   Nominee Phone
     *   Primary FFAR Research Target Area (select from: Optimizing Agricultural Water Use; Transforming Soil Health; Enhancing Sustainable Farm Animal Productivity, Resilience, and Health; Improving Plant Efficiency; Achieving a Deeper Understanding of Nutrition and Healthful Food Choices; Managing Food Production Systems to Enhance Nutritional Outcomes; Spurring Food System Innovation)
     *   Secondary FFAR Research Target Area (select from those mentioned above)
  2.  One-half page abstract on research concept and strategy.
  3.  One-half page personal statement explaining why you believe that you are the best candidate to pursue this research, how this will advance your career, and how your proposed research aligns with FFAR’s values.
  4.  One page Biosketch.
