The National Science Foundation's Cultivating Cultures for Ethical STEM (CCE STEM)<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=91d256f05d&e=9deae42247> (formerly "EESE," see below) program supports proposals identifying factors that are efficacious in the formation of ethical STEM researchers in all the fields of science and engineering that NSF supports. CCE STEM research projects will use basic research to produce knowledge about what constitutes responsible or irresponsible, just or unjust scientific practices and sociotechnical systems, and how to best instill students with this knowledge. Note that in this solicitation, significant changes have been made to the long-standing Ethics Education and Science and Engineering (EESE) program. To better reflect the program's new focus, NSF has change the solicitation title to Cultivating Cultures for Ethical STEM (CCE STEM). Whereas EESE was centered on graduate education, this new solicitation is directed towards research that addresses the formation of ethical STEM students, faculty, and researchers at all levels, through a variety of means beyond conventional classroom instruction. The anticipated total funding amount per award will be $380,000 to $500,000 (including Facilities & Administration costs) for up to 5 years. The UA may, as the lead institution, submit only one application to this program.

Important dates:

  *   College/Institute review internal deadline:  On or about November 24, 2014.  Please consult with your Dean's/Director's office for specific date.
  *   Office for Research & Discovery internal review deadline:  December 1, 2014.
  *   Sponsor Deadline:  February 17, 2015

Interested investigators are asked to submit a pre-proposal to their deans for referral to the Office for Research & Discovery by the internal deadline. Pre-proposals will include a 2-3 page project description and a 2-page NSF Biographical Sketch.
