[Faculty] ATTN: All CALS Faculty -- Your Input Needed

Dear CALS Faculty,

The CALS Faculty Consultative Group (FCG2) requests your input to three very important questions pertaining to CALS.

The three questions are open-ended and should take only a few minutes for you to provide answers.

Please submit your input no later than APRIL 15, 2013.

Your participation as faculty in determining the future of CALS is valued and is indispensable to this process.

Here ar the three questions:

(1) Given current CALS values, mission, strategic goals and financial reality, what are the ways by which CALS academic units could cooperate to enhance the effective/efficient delivery of education, research and extension? 
Framing Question: How would your academic unit function effectively in 5 years or 10 years given its aging demographics and projected faculty retirement through these periods, and given the expected limited ability of CALS to hire new faculty given the present budget situation? 

(2) What are the ways by which CALS faculty could foster shared governance within CALS and within CALS units? 
Shared governance is particularly crucial during times such as now when critical decisions with broad-based support need to be made for CALS and its units. 

(3) What necessary skills and qualities do you want to see in an ideal Unit/Department Head?
