<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">For Spring 21 Main campus students- up for incoming first year students (entering the university in spring semester), down for transfer and slightly down overall.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">Overall number of students across all areas (first year, transfer and total students) are up, driven primarily by growth in Arizona Online Enrollment.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level1 lfo1">Given the impossibility of on-campus tours, Admissions has worked to develop substantial additional resources around virtual tours and person-to-person interactions for prospective students.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level1 lfo1">Admissions- Fall 21 vs Fall 20<o:p></o:p></li><ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">Numbers are up in all areas except housing applications. Orientations up 36.4% vs this time last year.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">Arizona Online admits are up 100% from this time last year.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">By demographics, out-of-state Orientation are up the most (86.4%), international student orientations have suffered the most (down 20% despite and actual increase in the number of applicants and admits).<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">The university has moved to test blind for merit aid, and has worked closely with UAIR to develop new aid funding models that do not rely on test scores.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">A question was asked regarding retention and more detailed enrollment stats for spring: Student on average are enrolling in fewer credit hours this spring. Has the budget office been working on modeling
tuition revenue for spring? Lisa indicated yes.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l3 level2 lfo1">What is behind optimistic numbers for Fall semester, especially with respect to out of state students? Admissions has made a concerted, long-term effort over the past several years to recruit out of state
students. Those efforts are beginning to pay off. In addition, vaccine rollout has gone more quickly than originally anticipated (President Robbins mentioned his goal is to have all students vaccinated before they leave for summer). This is leaving people
more confident about making plans for fall.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2">Arizona Online is moving up from #11 to #7 in the forthcoming US News and World Report Rankings. In addition, several induvial programs moved up in ranking. It is expected these new rankings will lead to
even more enrollment growth.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2">Changes are being implemented in the way new program development is being handled. UA Online will take a more pro-active approach by looking at high demand areas where they see room for growth and then actively
approaching departments about developing those programs.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2">"Bigg Hairy Goals" for Arizona Online<o:p></o:p></li><ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2">A question was raised about program overlap between Arizona Online and UAGS (Formerly Ashford). Several programs overlap, and there are even reports of similar course descriptions emerging between Arizona
Online and UAGS. Craig indicated that they serve two different markets- Arizona Online contains ranked program, UAGS does not. There was also concern raised about confusion on the part of prospective students about the distinction between Arizona Online and
UAGS- is it clear in marketing materials? Some anecdotal evidence suggests it is not.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2">As enrollment increases in Arizona Online, it will put more and more pressure on the cost side- given the gap in tuition between main campus and Arizona online, is enrollment scalable at current tuition
levels? Craig indicated a high level of price sensitivity to online programs- as a result, there is not a lot of room for tuition increase. However, we can look to fees and differential tuition as a way to support the costs of delivering individual programs.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:18.0pt">state funding for UArizona</span></b><o:p></o:p></p>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo3">Governor's budget was recently released. The proposal indicates an overall increase in next year’s state budget. Allocation for UA is proposed to increase as well, but less than we had hoped: $35m vs $100m.
New funded in initiatives include Space, Mining and Health Sciences. <o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo3">There is some hope that the past year has demonstrated the ways that higher education can contribute to the overall heath of the state (literally and figuratively). It is critical that state universities
step up efforts to communicate with voters about the importance of higher ed to state prosperity. <o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo3">TRIFF funding will expire at the end of June 2021. This means that funding is no longer voter protected and could be cut by the state. Steve's team (in coordination with President Robbins and Betsy Cantwell)
is working on a strategy to ensure those research dollars are protected. Betsy pointed out that this expiration requires to the university to transition to year-to-year rather than multi-year planning for internal allocation of TRIFF dollars. Even if the amount
of funding available is preserved, this will present limits around what we will be able to do with TRIFF funding compared to current practices.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>

If anyone experiences these hang-ups, please bring them forward immediately-
