<span style="color:black">As you are fully aware, the promotions from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, and from Associate Professor to Professor, represent major milestones in the careers of our faculty, and entail an enormous number of contributions
across the axes of research, teaching, service, extension and clinical impacts. The achievement of promotion is usually recognized with a salary increase, but our data show that the amount of these salary increases varies considerably in some cases, even
within departments, since they often incorporate concomitant equity, market and merit adjustments. Unfortunately, this approach has led to a sense of inequity among some of our faculty, who cannot easily tease apart the drivers for differential salary outcomes

conditions. Further, by making this change, we aim to reduce potential salary inequities related to gender and race, while recognizing that it will not remove all possible drivers of inequity. We would further point out that it will be beneficial for you
