<p class="MsoNormal">Thanks to those of you who have provided feedback on the draft procedures for volunteer screening. Every bit of information helps. The revision is underway, and we’ll try to get the new version out by end of June.

<p class="MsoNormal">I’ve told several of you that I would figure out a timeline for the transition from “one-and-done” background checks to the DPS card – particularly, when do your current volunteers have to get their DPS cards. Some counties have told me
that they are requiring all active volunteers<span style="color:#1F497D"> </span>
<span style="color:black">working with youth </span>to get their DPS card before the 4-H year begins in fall 2018. That is fine.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If, however, you want to phase in the DPS card to ease workloads, we have a timeline for you. I’ve spent some time correlating the information in 4-HOnline and DCC. While the report I pulled from DCC does not tell me specifically if the
<span style="color:black">person has been background checked, I do have the number of years they have been a 4H volunteer; and I’ll depend on your knowledge to tell us
</span>if they were fingerprinted and background checked at that time. 4-HOnline tells me the status of the volunteer – Archived, Inactive, Pending, or Active and the number of years they have been registered in 4-HOnline. The other piece of information we
used in setting these dates is the valid time span for the DPS card – 6 years. <o:p>
</o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I will send each county a list of the volunteers from our compiled spreadsheet<span style="color:#1F497D">
</span>and provide the date we will expect each volunteer to have their DPS card in place. If you choose to require the DPS at an earlier date, that is fine. Additionally, you may have information that isn’t reflected in our databases – and I’m happy to include
that info in our records.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">These are the general guidelines we will use in setting dates:
