<div>Colleagues:</div><div> </div><div>I attended my first CALS cabinet meeting this morning in Tucson. It was, to say the least, a very interesting experience. There was only one topic for the agenda and the discussion went nonstop for the full hour. The topic was branding, marketing and communication.</div>
<div> </div><div>In essence, here is the problem: the Dean is finding it difficult to sell the College story at the legislature because many do not connect the various subdivisions of the college (and correlated programs) with the college. Cooperative Extension was one example given; there were others. The Dean is asking for help by bringing together all of the various entities under one identifiable brand. Most of the discussion centered around Cooperative Extension and how to get our long name to fit into a compact, easy to read and easy to recognize logo. Robert Casler is heading up the project to figure out the artwork. In the meantime, all units within the college will be asked to use the oval A logo that is most commonly seen on the lapel pin. I suspect that ensuing discussion in the executive council this morning will flesh out the details and that Director Silvertooth will provide more information at the appropriate time. I will be glad to take and report any feedback that you might like to share.</div>
<div> </div><div>I came away from the meeting with a number of perceptions, most of which I am still trying to sort out. Director Silvertooth does a good job of representing Cooperative Extension. He understands the nuances and appears to be well received at the table. I do feel that it is a good thing for there to be a CED representative with county experience present to provide an additional voice and viewpoint.</div>
