Good afternoon,



If your faculty wish to make an honorary degree nomination this year, please have the two required elements to Interim Dean Staten with a cc: to Bethany Rutledge (rutledge at arizona.edu<mailto:rutledge at arizona.edu>) no later than Thursday, December 11.  I’ve been advised to plan for a January 10, 2026, university deadline and need to ensure we have time for the ALVSCE Faculty Council to vote on any nominees, ideally before the end of finals.



The university has made several revisions to their procedures this year (attached and here<https://president.arizona.edu/ceremonies/honorary-degrees>), but the two required elements remain the same:



  1.  CV or resume.

     *   If one does not exist, please prepare a biosketch that includes the info you’d expect to find in a CV/resume.

  1.  Brief statement (maximum 500 words) that clearly describes how the candidate meets the criteria for an honorary degree.

     *   If you need to include a biosketch in lieu of a CV/resume, please be sure you are not duplicating the biosketch as your brief statement.
     *   Per recent feedback from the university’s Honorary Degree Advisory Committee, please include  “the percentage of faculty that participated in the vote and the numeric result of the vote.”



Please be sure to maintain absolute confidentiality about any nominations you are preparing.  There will need to be faculty and perhaps some staff involved in the process of preparing a nomination, but it is very important that the nominee and any others outside your unit don’t hear about an honorary degree that may not be awarded in the end.
