Kelly,
Please share this sad news from Bruce Tabashnik with the Units Head and CEDs to share as appropriate.
Ed
Good morning, everyone,
I am sorry to share the heart-rending news of the passing of our amazing and beloved colleague Entomology Professor and Extension Specialist Dr. John Palumbo yesterday morning after a long illness.
He received his MS in Entomology at UA and was an Entomology faculty member at the Yuma Agricultural Center (YAC) for 35 years. He is world renowned for his remarkable contributions to integrated pest management that made vegetable production safer, more sustainable, and more profitable. His outstanding achievements are recognized by essentially all of the top awards in his field including the Entomological Society of America’s awards for both Excellence in IPM and Distinguished Achievement in Extension. He was the first at UA to hold an Endowed Chair in IPM, which stakeholders created to honor him.
The short answer to what was great about John — everything. We will miss his beautiful smile, kindness, generosity, and willingness to do whatever was needed to help a stakeholder, student, or colleague.
Please see below the message from Angelica Gomez, Business Manager at YAC.
Please take care and support each other as we deal with this loss,
Bruce
