Dear Directors,
As you know, State Senator Tim Dunn is working to secure state support to strengthen and advance the University of Arizona’s land-grant mission, including much-needed resources for both the Cooperative Extension System (CES) and the Arizona Experiment Station (AES). As part of this effort, Steve Voeller, head of UA Government Relations, would like to begin holding regular meetings in January with local county Extension and Experiment Station representatives to touch base on the process, messaging, and get updates from folks on the ground.
To support this work, Steve requests that each county and Experiment Station site designate a County Representative/Station Representative (we anticipate this will be the 15 CES directors and 5 AES directors) to serve as the primary point of contact for these discussions. Please send us the name and email address of your representative before the University closure so we can begin scheduling meetings in January ahead of the new legislative session.
In preparation for these conversations, we encourage you to consider what your county or station could accomplish with increased state funding—for example, critical positions that need to be filled, infrastructure requiring investment, or programs and research that could be expanded. Conversely, please also think about the impacts of stagnant funding, including constraints on services, programming, or research that limit your ability to serve the public and Arizona’s communities.
Your input and engagement are essential as we work together to demonstrate the value and statewide impact of Cooperative Extension and the Arizona Experiment Station.
Thank you in advance for your prompt response and for your continued leadership and support.
Warm regards,
Ed and Brett
