ALVSCE Leaders,

There's no doubt that the hiring freeze and financial concerns have been disruptive and caused anxiety. The lack of clear guidance on exception processes for hiring and purchasing has only worsened the frustrations. Unfortunately, I've heard that many in our business community feel that our faculty and staff colleagues are taking these frustrations out on them. While I know where the frustration is coming from and feel it myself, taking it out on others is not acceptable and is only causing more anxiety.

I ask for your help to be on the lookout for unproductive behaviors and redirect them towards constructive outcomes. Reminding our colleagues that we are all working in an ambiguous situation and trying to do the best we can might be the first step. Shane, my office, and I are attempting to gain clarity on the exception processes. We are speaking directly with those who are creating these processes and the decision makers. As soon as we know, we will share.

I appreciate your leadership at this confusing time. Thank you very much.
