[CED/CD/EAT] Appointment of Melanie Hingle, Assistant Dean for Strategic Implementation

CALS and Extension Leaders,

I'm pleased to announce that Melanie Hingle, in addition to her faculty duties, will join the leadership of the division as the Assistant Dean for Strategic Implementation.  As you know, Melanie has been one of our senators on Faculty Senate and has held leadership positions including vice-Chair for that body during an unbelievably tumultuous time.  She has served on multiple university-level committees and taskforces and built an inimitable portfolio of experiences and contacts that make her a unique asset for ALVSCE.

In this new position, she will work closely with associate deans and unit heads on projects as far ranging as academic initiatives at the Phoenix Biomedical Campus to working with Cooperative Extension in the attainment of the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement.  It doesn't take much to realize that almost every unit in the division is neck deep in projects and initiatives that are on top of the normal work of the unit.  We run the risk of failing to realize great opportunities due to a lack of bandwidth and institutional coordination.  Someone with Melanie's skill can help us bring projects to reality and identify points of collaboration that avoid wheel reinvention.

Shane, Melanie, and I are prioritizing the projects around the strategic intents and mission areas of the division and university.  She may contact you in the near future to learn more and offer help.  Her job is to help ALVSCE leaders by providing wayfinding to resources, connect leaders together who are working on similar projects or are struggling with similar challenges, and help you turn your plans into reality.
