>From the new guidelines, it appears to me that what the new policy is not allowing, is the use of cloth-based masks. They need to be surgical grade disposable mask or the higher grade N95, etc. masks.

[W.B. Mason Co. Surgical Grade Face Mask, 3-Ply, Ear Loop, 50/BX - WB Mason]

These masks are appropriate, correct? These are the masks we have purchased and used locally in our counties.

Thanks,
Randy

Don,

As I read it, surgical masks are fine.

Do we really need to use the higher-grade masks? The guideline says surgical masks or higher-grade masks. So I think the surgical masks are still fine. Or am I wrong?

We’ve been doing some research here this morning about this since we received the email from Ratje. The concern I have about this is the cost (we did order some yesterday before we got the email and found them on Amazon for about $46 for 20 masks). The KN95 masks (and the others) can only be used 3 times with cleaning (there are limited cleaning options - only 4 that I found and none that I have the supplies for – so we have to build in that cost). I know Facilities is supposed to have these available (if it’s anything like the earlier PPE orders we had to wait months for delivery), but if we have to provide this this is going to end up being a big cost to all of us. Dear Directors,

By now, most of you have heard that the UA is now requiring employees to “wear a surgical- or higher-grade mask (KN95, N95, KF94, and N99) in indoor spaces at all campus locations.”

If you can purchase masks locally, please do so and use them. Like the cloth ones we are using now, these masks should be worn when six feet of continuous physical distancing cannot be maintained.

If you need assistance in ordering masks, contact Kristie, and she will help you.

Regards,

Ed
