Thanks, Amanda.  Great question.  If job announcements have been posted, continue per the old guidance.  For committees that have not yet gotten to the point of posting a job announcement, please follow the new guidance.

For committees that have already been formed and given a formal charge- do we request them to comply with these new instructions, or are they able to move forward as is, since they have already began their work prior to the effective date below?

The following info has been cross posted on different listservs.

Below, Provost Folks and Andrea Romero have updated the faculty search training requirements and process for selection of committee members.  The search training has been revised and is now required to be viewed by all committee members, not just the search chair.  And a committee composition document is required to demonstrate that the committee is diverse. Dear Colleagues,

We are committed to best practices in faculty hiring. Our Faculty Search Committee Training has improved adherence to best practices of search committees and yielded improved diversity of hired faculty in the past two years.  We have also received great feedback for continuous improvement of the training, and as such we are ready to expand the training to more stakeholders. We acknowledge that this training is an added burden to members of the search committee. We genuinely believe in the evidence that shows that this is a better practice for searches and will lead to better outcomes and ultimately lead us to a more diverse and excellent faculty representative of our entire community.

To accelerate this effort, we are writing to share the following updates with you, along with links to the updated training, materials and processes.

  *   The Faculty Search Committee Training will be required for ALL faculty search committee members and hiring authorities effective November 15th, 2021. The training is now available in EDGE<https://arizona.sabacloud.com/Saba/Web_spf/NA7P1PRD161/common/learningeventdetail/crtfy000000000003300> in four brief modules that cover better practices for recruitment and hiring. Training must be completed by all faculty search committee members prior to submitting a requisition to HR. Faculty will be able to download their certificate of completion from EDGE and share it with the hiring authority, who submits it with the job requisition.
  *   Hiring authorities will now be asked to complete a short form that will be routed through the Office of the Provost. It includes the following four prompts:

1.      The names, position titles, and departments / colleges of each search committee member, along with a brief rationale for each being included on the search committee.

2.      Confirmation that all search committee members have completed all modules of the Faculty Search Committee Training in EDGE. Certificates of completion should be submitted with the job requisition.

3.      A short statement that describes how the search committee composition ensures appropriately diverse representation, which includes participation by at least one member from outside the hiring unit.

4.      A short statement about the planned recruitment strategies and promotional outlets for ensuring diverse representation of excellent applicants.

Dr. Judy Marquez Kiyama (jkiyama at email.arizona.edu<mailto:jkiyama at email.arizona.edu>), Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Development will host weekly drop-in hours to answer questions on faculty search processes.
