Dear Unit Heads and Directors:

Staff Council Needs Your Help!
Please reply to this message by Friday, June 11, 2021 with the name of a Staff member in your unit who you think would be interested and help by participating in an initial kickoff meeting for Staff Council, scheduled for June 29, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.  This is a one-time commitment of 1.5 hours for this event, and if the employee you select decides to join the new Staff Council, the time commitment is no more than 4 hours per month.  We will then get in contact with them regarding this upcoming meeting.

Why This Request?
We want to set up an initial organizational meeting and are requesting that, if possible, each ALVSCE Unit Head and School Director appoint one University Staff member to attend.  We are looking to start with a large representative base of Staff who are interested in learning more about joining this Shared Governance Council, becoming a part of Division Shared Governance, and getting involved in helping to make our Division and our College a great place to work.  Please note that what we are requesting is that one representative be able to attend this kick off meeting and then either continue or go back to their unit with more information to be able to recommend another Staff member to join this new Council.

Why a New Council for Staff?
With the implementation of UCAP<http://ucap.arizona.edu> in January 2020, Classified Staff and Appointed Professionals were reclassified as University Staff, presenting the Division with an opportunity for us to form a new Shared Governance Council that not only represents employees in the new employee classification, University Staff, but also those who are Classified Staff, both collectively referred to simply as Staff.  An Organizing Committee has been formed to help facilitate the formation of this new group.

Who is the Organizing Committee?
This organizing committee is comprised of members who have served on a past CALS Shared Governance Council (e.g., Staff Council, Appointed Professionals Council) and/or represent an area that was formerly represented in the combined structure of Classified Staff and Appointed Professionals:

  *   Brian Berrellez – Former Chair, CALS Appointed Professionals Council, ALVSCE Division Business Services
  *   Robert Lanza – Former Chair, CALS Classified Staff Council, Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences
  *   Amanda Zaman – FCS/AETI/AREC Business Center
  *   Kelly Arizmendi – UA Cooperative Extension
  *   Amanda Armendariz – CALS Career & Academic Services
  *   Sandra Saad – UA Cooperative Extension
  *   Leah Chavez – ALVSCE Division Business Services
