Sent on Behalf of Jean Mclain:

Good morning everyone,

I spoke at a Faculty Affairs workshop this morning on preparing the Teaching and Service portfolios and received some important information - some of what I write below will be just for you, some should be shared with any faculty in your unit who will (or may be) preparing a dossier in 2021.

Collaborator letters - these MUST be solicited by you and can NOT be solicited by the candidate. In the past, there has been a rather lax adherence to this policy, and candidate-solicited letters have been allowed into the dossiers - this will no longer be the case. Early on in the dossier preparation process, ask the faculty member whether they have collaborators that they would like to have letters from, and please solicit these letters for them. The letters must be addressed to you, NOT to the candidate. This includes letters from any former student. Letters from current students can be submitted by the candidate as part of the teaching portfolio. However, remember that collaborator letters are optional, so this should not be causing anyone too much stress.

Please pass the next two pieces of information on to those preparing dossiers:

In 2021, UA Faculty Affairs will be piloting a program for direct online submission of dossiers by the candidates - as you are well aware, online submission occurred last year, but was managed by the amazing support staff in each of your units. So - if you have a faculty candidate who is interested in participating in this pilot program, please ask them to contact me and I will put them in touch with the management.

The UA Faculty Affairs office is facilitating working groups of faculty so they can support and peer review one another's Candidate Statements and Teaching Philosophies. If you have a faculty candidate who would like to join a working group, please ask them to contact Adrian Arroyo Perez at arroyopa at arizona.edu<mailto:arroyopa at arizona.edu>.

This is all for now. I will keep you updated as more information comes in. :)

Have a nice weekend.

Jeannie
